Season kick-off

We are (unbelievably) less than two weeks away from our first ski lesson of the season, which is at the Canmore Nordic Centre on December 2. It will be here before we know it, so here's a few things to keep in mind:

  • New families: If you are a new family, and would like an orientation to the club, we'll be available at 9:15 a.m. at the Canmore Nordic Centre, in Meeting Room B (second floor of the lodge). If you can't make it that early, feel free to reach out to us and we'll make sure to connect with you before Sunday. Pay attention to the gear list on our FAQ web page, and you'll be okay. If you are new to the club and your skier is in Level 3 or 4, you can either purchase skate skis for the season or you can rent them at the Nordic Centre. Just make sure to leave enough time to go through the rental process, if you go the rental route (that's what we're doing this year for our daughter in Level 4).

  • Bunnies: Remember, skiers in Bunnies will need a parent with them during the lesson.

  • Level Lynx (Level 5): It's happening. This level has been a true evolution of our club, as our families have stuck with us over the years only to realize they have a younger skier still in the Levels, with an older sibling having completed the Levels. We've got enough resources to have a real-live next level after Level 4. The five kids who have signed up for Level Lynx will have a great couple of hours of skiing outside. I'll send a separate email to those families registered in Level Lynx with he details.

  • What of it's too cold? Great question. On the Saturday evening before we're scheduled to ski the next day, we'll post whether we're skiing or not around 5 p.m. Reasons for not skiing include the air temperature with windchill is colder than -20 (we will ski if it says -20) or if driving conditions are expected to be too dangerous due to snow. Make sure to check the home page of the website every Saturday evening, before we ski.

  • Coaches: Head coach Jamie Grant has sent this year's coaches an update email that includes your to-do list. Make sure to take your Intro to Community Coaching online. The Club will reimburse you. Thanks ahead of time for volunteering your Sunday mornings. The kids and the club super appreciate it. Please email Jamie if you have any questions.

  • MEC night: We're working with Mountain Equipment Coop to host a club night on the evening of December 6. Gillian will be in touch with the parents who signed up to volunteer. In general, club members will get a 10% discount of purchases (think Christmas gifts for yourself, friends and family!). More details will come, once we confirm it with MEC.

That's it for now. I'll send another email the week leading up to our first lesson to remind everyone again. In the meantime, please let me know if you have any questions so we can make sure you're set up nice and comfortable for the season.

Sincerely,

Ryan Murray, president Bow Waters Jackrabbits ski club.
