2012 Alberta Youth X-C Ski Championships

Hello Bow Waters members: I am passing on info from Roy Strum, the organizer and club host of this year's Alberta Youth X-C Championships, which will be held in Bragg Creek from Mar 2-4 and is for those born between 1998-2001. While BWJR is a recreational club and is not directly affiliated with these championships, I still encourage you to consider this event as it is designed as a friendly competition.

No lessons are planned for Mar 4, though it is the same day as the Lake Louise Loppet weekend. Choose wisely, but choose one!

Info can be found at the following link: http://www.xcbraggcreek.ca/assets/2012%20Alberta%20Youth%20Cross%20Country%20Ski%20Championships.racenotice.11.pdf

Deadline for early reg'n is Dec 15 ($90) - after that, cost is $150 https://zone4.ca/onlinereg.asp?id=4072.

Roy provides his 'top ten' reasons for participating, below:

Reason #10 - travel subsidy for clubs travelling from further than 600km (one way) to Bragg Creek

Reason #9 - hilly trails that have never hosted a provincial level event

Reason #8 - great trail grooming by Kananaskis Country and the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association

Reason #7 - friendly parents and organizers from the XC Bragg Creek ski club

Reason #6 - a low key, low stress event - this will not going to look like the olympics, world championships, nationals, or any 'serious' competition

Reason #5 - a fun saturday night skating party (on ice skates)

Reason #4 - medals to 10th place in each single year, single gender competition category

Reason #3 - a chance to be part of an event that your children will later say "i was there, at the most fun kids cross country event, ever"

Reason #2 - experience a camp style event where kids eat all of their meals together as a provincial ski community, sleep in bunkrooms with kids from their club, travel with their team to and from the event site via parent volunteers from their own clubs,

Reason #1 - develop a provinciial ski community that encourages relationship building with kids from other clubs at an event focused only on cross country skiing where kids attend as part of a team representing their ski club.
