Our members are from Calgary and surrounding area.
During the 2005/2006 season we
had 110 total skiers, made up of 32 families, including 45 Jackrabbits.
Children earn badges for lesson participation, technique, touring,
speed, and loppet participation.
We
strongly encourage adults to
improve their skiing technique by offering the opportunity to ski
with other families after lessons, and during optional tours. Parent
Volunteer Instructors are required to attend at least the Introduction to Community Coaching course according to Cross-country Alberta regulations.
Each
season,
we organize activities, depending on the interests of the members,
and depending on willing volunteers. In the past, we have run hostel
weekends, women's and men's tours, optional tours and sports days.
Our AGM and awards banquet wrap up the season, in April. Although
our schedule allows skiers to try a fun race or two (called "loppets"),
our emphasis is on recreational skiing, skills improvement in both classic and skating techniques, ski touring
and fun! Beginning families typically start by participating in our
10 lesson program and then add more activities as the seasons go by.
Our program relies on volunteer participation. We ask that
one family member volunteer in some capacity with the club, whether
it be instructing, organizing a hostel weekend, taking photos, helping
with sports day or the AGM, or other tasks which are required. The
volunteer spirit has been the success of our club! Click here for a description of Volunteer Positions.
The "Snowphone"
box on this page is used to communicate our next activity. We will
try to give the "go" or "no go" call via e-mail
a few days in advance of a lesson or tour. Activities may be postponed if we experience poor snow conditions
or very cold weather.
Please note that club activities as described on our website are limited to club members only. Due to liability issues, we regret that we can no longer accept "drop in" or member guests at lessons or optional tours.
Please
visit other pages on this site to learn more about Bow Waters Jackrabbits,
including how to join our club, and how to contact us. May the snow
be with you! |
