2018/2019 Ski Season

Welcome to fall 2018, which will lead right into our 2018-2019 ski season, before we know it. The executive team recently met and I wanted to give you all an update on a few items, before registration opens:

Coaches

We’re still looking for coaches. Our club is 100 per cent run by the parent volunteers of our awesome young skiers. We’ve got some veteran coaches coming back, so if you’re unsure of whether to go for it, you’ll have lots of support. The coaching training is free and it’s a great growing opportunity as a parent. Ideally, we have 10-12 coaches- two for each level, with some spares who we can move around if any of the levels need extra support.

If we get enough coaches, we may consider a new touring group for older kids, who are no longer in level four, but may have younger siblings still in Jack Rabbits.

Fees

In the past few years we’ve had the luxury of a few grants come our way. These grants have meant the club could cover the Lake Louise kids’ dinners and end-of-season lunches for the club. These expenses have also meant that we’ve eaten through most of our surplus budget. When the executive met, we determined our primary financial goal for this season is to continue delivering value to you and your family, while balancing the club budget and keeping registration fees low.

Considering those items, the fees for this season are $120 per child. This will cover 11, two-hour ski lesson sessions, as in past years. We’ll also be able to pay for trail passes at the Canmore Nordic Centre for coaches and donate a small fee to the Foothills Nordic Ski Club for use of their epic ski playground at Confederation Park in Calgary, which was an amazing experience last year for both our skiers and parents.

We expect registration to open up in about a week’s time.

New website

We’ve been picking away at a new website for this year, which is well overdue. We’re a few days away from having it up and running, so when you go to register, just know you’re in the right place, as it will look and feel significantly different than in the past.

Stay tuned!

We're pretty proud of our little grass roots community club. Those rosy-cheeked smiles on the kids' faces from past years will keep us going for years to come. Hope to see you and new families out this year for another fun season in the snow. I'll be sending out one more email to this distribution list once registration opens.
